The Number One Skill That Has The Most Impact On Your Basketball Game

If I was to pick one part of a player's basketball game that had the most impact on how good a player they would be, would you come up with the same answer? It's not shooting, it's not dribbling, it's not passing. The thing that has the most impact on a player's impact is their focus. https://amrinasygssarissa.blogspot.com/2019/02/the-number-one-skill-that-has-most.html

Do you think that Kobe Bryant would be able to hit game-winning shots, time after time, if he didn't have a high level of focus? Do you think that Derrick Rose, the 2010-2011 NBA Season Most Valuable Player, would be able to weave through the defence and score without being able to focus? While these players have a high level of skill and athleticism, their focus is what gets them the results.

The good news, is that no matter what your skill level in basketball is, focus, or concentration, is something you can improve on. Whether you're nine years old, or forty years old, a little bit of focus goes a long way.

Some ways to improve your focus are:

Visualise What You're Doing

If you can picture or visualise what you're doing, before you're doing it, this will help your focus. About to shoot a three-pointer? Focus on the ring, visualise the ball leaving your hands perfectly, and picture the ball going in the ring. Don't think about anything else in that moment. About to pass the ball to a teammate? Think about where the teammate is, picture the ball going directly to them, visualise the pass being perfect. https://amrinasygssarissa.blogspot.com

Don't Think About Anything Else

If you let other things creep into your mind at that time, then you will lose focus on what you're attempting to do, and there will be a higher chance it will be unsuccessful. If you're thinking about the scoreboard, your shoelaces, what you're having for dinner that night, you're not focusing all your attention on your current task.

Make A Decision And Don't Hesitate

A lot of times in my playing career, either myself or other players have made mistakes that have been caused from hesitating or changing their decisions too late. An example of this would be shooting a short-range shot - you may have two options, either shoot at the basket or shoot off the backboard into the basket.

If you don't make a decision, or hesitate in making one, what may happen is you will end up shooting the ball in the general direction of the basket, without any technique either way, and likely missing the shot. Or, you will shoot the ball using one technique, but it won't be at the best time and you may miss or the shot will be blocked.

Learn to make a decision quickly and stick to it - this is almost always better than making no decision at all. Other cases could be: https://amrinasygssarissa.blogspot.com/2019/02/special-bingo-playing-tips.html

Hesitation in choosing to dribble either left or right around a defender

Passing the ball to a teammate either as a bounce-pass or in the air

Going for a layup or stopping to shoot the ball

If you learn, and practice, and get used to focusing and making decisions with minimal or no hesitation in situations, it will have a great impact on your game.
